Carpenters are involved in many different kinds of construction actiity.  They cut, fit, and assemple wood and other materials for the construction of buildings, highways, bridges, docks, indusstrial plants, boats and many other structures.   Carpenters’ duties vary b by the type of employer.  Builders increasingly are using specialty trade contractors who, in turn, hire carpenters who specialize in just one or two activities.  Such activities include setting forms for concrete construction, erecting scaffolding, or doing finishing work, such as installing interior or exterior trim.   A carpenter directly employed by a general contractor must often perform a wider variety of tasks associated with new construction ... ... i.e. framing walls and partitions, putting in doorsand windows, building stairs, laying hardwood floors, and hanging kitchen cabinets.  Carpenters may also be involved in any number of other tasks, e.g. build furniture, repair furniture, replace glass, and install machinery. General carpenters construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures and components of structures made of wood, wood-substitutes and other materials
Finish carpenters do detailed work requiring high level of skills.  Rough carpenters do framing and forming which require less skills

Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials.  Build foundations, install floor beams, lay sub flooring and erect walls and roof systems. Fit and install trim items such as doors, stairs, molding and hardware.
