Katharine Kent lives and works in Tucson, Arizona. Her skilled trades credentials are powerful and certainly not ordinary. If you come to the trades like Katharine, great for you. She seems to have known early where her talents and interests should take her. She earned her BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Houston in 1986. in 1994, she earned an MS in Nuclear and Energy Engineering, from the University of Arizona. Her specialization is thermal and electric solar energy and thermal human comfort. She is a licensed professional engineer in Arizona and a Certified Energy manager. In addition, she holds dual, commercial and residential Arizona contracting licenses in electrical and plumbing with solar. We have asked Katharine to write and edit our features on Solar Power and the Green topics of the day.
Katharine completed her Masters of Business Administration at the University of Arizona.
Dow Chemical, the University of Arizona, Peroxidation Systems, Vulcan Chemical and
Calgon Carbon have employed Ms. Kent. While employed at the University of Arizona,
she was awarded the Department of Energy's Energy Innovation award for work on passive
cooling strategies for desert climates. Ms. Kent was named the Society of Women's
Engineer's Distinguished New Engineer in 1995. Katharine has been appointed to the
Arizona Solar Advisory Council, and is an active member of the National Association
of Women Business Owners.
Katharine has been the President of the Solar Store since 1998. The Solar Store provides
energy solutions for homeowners whether they live in urban or rural settings. Systems
include passive and active solar hot water systems, instantaneous hot water, solar
hot water heating, radiant floor heating, and solar electric systems for remote or
grid tie systems.
